The garden has been brought indoors for safe keeping from the wintry weather. Coleus cuttings have been placed in water filled vases. Many have already grown masses of roots and are ready to be potted up into a more substantial medium.
Rooted cuttings received from a gardening friend are happily thriving in the kitchen window where it is easy to remember to give them a drink of water.
The orchids which were so badly neglected last winter have forgiven me and are blooming.
The spare bedroom with its east-facing window has become the home for the orchids and tillandsias that usually live on the back porch.
These plants and many other potted cuttings and large container plants are being kept cozy and warm all over the house and on the back porch. When spring-time temperatures arrive they and I will be ready to return to the great outdoors.

ReplyDeleteMine are not so happy but being forced to become hardened to this strangely cold December or they will be giving into it... one or the other.
Orchids definitely deserve the extra treatment.

Merry Christmas, NanaK! I love your orchid-filled room. My kitchen floor was covered in orchids a few days last week and looks like we're gonna have to do it again tomorrow. Ugh.
