A Mild December

This December's weather in central Florida has been glorious!  Cool, low humidity and best of all, not one hint of a freeze.

The shady tropical corner here at My Garden Path has been a very enjoyable spot in which to spend time.

The tropical gingers are holding up well and only a few of those that go dormant have started to turn yellow and go to sleep.  If we have a mild winter, all winter, the spiral gingers should bloom in the spring.

While freezing temperatures will knock back most of the foliage in this area, there are some hardier specimens that will anchor the bed such as the bird's nest fern, cast-iron plants and shefflera.

Whatever the rest of winter brings to my garden, I'm enjoying this time immensely.  Right now, this shady, tropical corner is making me smile.

  1. We definitely have had wonderful weather. This time last year we had already had a nasty freeze. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope this "perfect" weather continues. Have a very merry Christmas!

  2. It is indeed a very gorgeous December here! Your shady tropical corner still looks very tropical, love it too! Hope this weather can stay so that you can get your spiral ginger blooming in the Spring.

    Merry Christmas!

  3. Susan - I remember that freeze quite well. This year the blue sage you gave me a cutting of just may bloom! It is well over 5 feet tall and wide and full of buds. Merry Christmas to you!

Ami - Your zone 10 garden must really be doing well with this great weather. Here's hoping we all enjoy a mild Florida winter this year. Merry Christmas to you Ami!

  4. Nana ~ I love the tropical feel your have there in your garden. Everything looks lush and happy. We sure are enjoying great weather too, although we do wish it was a little cooler for Christmas.

Have a wonderful Christmas and a great 2012.

  5. I too have been loving this December! My roses are in bloom, butterflies are crazy and so is my Powder puff bush!...Haven't seen her in bloom for two seasons now! Yeah! to no early freeze! Your garden is beautiful and lush with all those tropicals! just Love It!!! janine

  6. Your garden is just perfect. Your plants show that they're getting a lot of TLC from the owner. How do you keep them so healthy? I wanted to start a garden of my own, but I just don't have the green thumb and it's kinda frustrating.

  7. Aren't you glad you got some pix of your garden before the freeze? It looks beautiful, Kay! Hoping you fared well :)

Thank you for travelling down My Garden Path with me. I love hearing from you. Please leave a comment and share what is going on in your gardens.
