The Riverview Garden Club held a plant sale where I found plants donated by the Riverview Flower Farm. What a wonderful surprise that was! I'm not a member of this group just a happy, happy customer. The Sedum Florida Gold on the right is one of my greatly desired plants for this year's garden. This is a cold hardy and heat tolerant ground cover for sunny areas. I've been at my Home Depot garden center just about every other day waiting for their shipment to come. I couldn't believe my good fortune to find it at this sale. The Tampa Vervain on the left is a Florida native plant named after my hometown. How could I resist?
It was a very good weekend at My Garden Path.
Good for you, NanaK... what a fun find. You are going to love that Sedum gold... I've been dividing mine and spilling it out over container pots. I've always wondered about the Tampa Vervain... will be curious to know how it does for you.

Looks like you found two winners. My sedum gold did very well through the winter, and I'm very happy with it. The Tampa Vervain is a very pretty color.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know that you indeed had a very good weekend! I was just asking that on my new post :) I have sedum gold as well. The small pack I originally bought from home depot now is spreading all over my garden, and my friends' garden. You won't be disappointed! I love the color of that Tempa Vervain, lavendar color? I have not seen this here yet. Enjoy your new plants!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteJust drop by and visit your lovely garden.
You must be very excited to get that gold sedum in your collection.
I noticed most of the plants in your garden have a very similar zone but I guess yours is much cooler.
Hope spring comes faster than expected.
Good luck!
Meems - I'll have to try some sedum in container combos. I'm planning to use more of those since reading your inspiring posts on the subject. I'm such a copycat.
ReplyDeleteSusan - Good to hear the sedum really does make it through the winter.
Ami - Just read your post about YOUR weekend. It was fun to be planting wasn't it? The Tampa Vervain is a medium lavendar color. I'm hoping it and the sedum will look good together and just spread all over the place.
James - My Garden Path is in a sub-tropical zone that just came through an unusually cold winter. But, those winters do show up every now and then. It's hard to remember that while the tropical plants will usually return in the spring, they really can't be counted on exclusively. Thus the quest on my part to find plants that are more cold-hardy yet will stand up to the summer heat and humidity. Not an easy quest. Glad you dropped by and I look forward to visiting your blog.
I delight in your good fortune. The sedum is lovely, indeed. (I can just about always be lured by bright chartreuse/gold foliage. ;)
ReplyDeleteI,too, have Tampa Vervain.Love the color. And the butterflies love it!

NannK, Great find on your new plants. Just another week or so and warm weather will be on its way. Then garden, garden and garden some more. Janis
ReplyDeleteMeredith - I love chartreuse in the garden too. That is definitely what drew me to the sedum. Finding out it is heat AND cold tolerant sealed the deal.
ReplyDeleteChrisC - I'm glad to hear the butterflies love the Vervain. I have it planted in my "butterfly area".
Janis - It seems we have at least one more cold night ahead and then....I sure hope it's time to garden! (Even though I have obviously been cheating and planting stuff anyway.)
I have that sedum in a container on a planter stand and just noticed today that it leaped out and rooted in the ground below!
ReplyDeleteLucky you finding Flower Farm plants at the club sale, NanaK. Farmer Rick is so good about spreading the love.
